December 16, 2009
This 4.33-carat, radiant-cut, fancy intense yellow diamond ring sold for $37,343 at the Dec. 6 Signature Jewelry Auction at Heritage Auction Galleries in Dallas.

Dallas--Diamonds dominated at the Dec. 6 Heritage Fine Jewelry Auction in Dallas, taking nine of the top 10 lots at the $1 million-plus jewelry event, according to a news release.

The fine timepieces portion of the two-day auction was held Dec. 7 and realized $1.2 million, bringing the auction total for Heritage Auction Galleries in Dallas to $2.2 million.

"It's encouraging to see collectors buying diamonds as they did in this auction," Jill Burgum, director of jewelry auctions at Heritage, said in the release. "Clearly, they were willing to spend appropriately for the best examples."

A 4.33-carat, radiant-cut, fancy intense yellow diamond set in a gold and platinum ring fetched a winning bid of $37,343 to occupy the top lot in the auction. The center stone was enhanced by 1.75 carats of trapezoid- and full-cut diamonds.

Not far behind was the $33,460 sale of a diamond, cultured pearl, black onyx and gold jewelry suite from the Panthere de Cartier collection, according to the release.

The set include a necklace featuring full-cut diamonds enhanced by carved black onyx set in 18-karat yellow gold, a pair of matching earrings with cultured pearl highlights and a matching ring. The total diamond weight for the suite was about 7 carats.

In addition, a gold and diamond ring featuring a 5-carat emerald-cut diamond enhanced by full-cut diamonds, flush set in 18-karat yellow gold with a total weight of 5.75 carats brought $28,680, according to the release.

An art deco diamond and white gold ring featuring a 5.85-carat European-cut diamond with a bezel set in decorative 14-karat white gold also realized $26,680.

According to the release, the day finished with a diamond and gold jewelry suite totaling 62 carats in diamonds that garnered $26,290 after heated bidding. The suite included a necklace featuring marquise-shaped diamonds with a total carat weight of about 20.90 enhanced by 19.80 carats of full-cut diamonds. The necklace also featured 2.60 carats of baguettes and 3.20 carats of pear-shaped diamonds.

The suite's bracelet featured 6.35 carats of marquise-shaped diamonds, 6.30 carats of full-cut diamonds and 2.85 carats of baguette-cut diamonds set in 18-karat white gold, according to the release.
