Ramat Gan, Israel--A new collection of diamond jewelry featuring pieces crafted by Israeli designers is now on display at the Harry Oppenheimer Diamond Museum in Ramat Gan, Israel.

The exhibition, "On the Point of a Diamond," showcases the work of 25 contemporary jewelry designers who are members of the Israel Community of Designers, an organization that represents Israel's practicing professional designers in the fields of industrial, graphic and jewelry design.

According to a press release on the exhibit, Israeli diamond companies supplied each designer with three carats of diamonds valued at $5,000 for the exhibition. The designers used the stones to craft their choice of earrings, pendants, rings, pins, necklaces or bracelets, incorporating conventional and unconventional materials, such as gold, silver, iron, Perspex, wood, Styrofoam and paper.

The only rules were that each piece had to include diamonds and each designer had to include one piece that was both a pendant and a work of art.

"Providing outstanding designers with diamonds, the most important gemstone, is a challenge that guarantees interesting results," David Grossman, president of the Israel Community of Designers, said in the release. "The resulting designs of diamond jewelry have turned this exhibition into an expression of international excellence in terms of design and industry."

The exhibition, which opened to the public on Jan. 14, kicked off with a reception sponsored by the museum's owner, the Israel Diamond Institute Group of Companies (IDI).

Attendees at the opening reception included IDI chairman Moti Ganz, Israel Diamond Exchange President Avi Paz, museum chairman Shmuel Schnitzer, Ramat Gan mayor Tzvi Bar, Grossman and Batia Wang, a featured designer in the exhibition and head of the jewelry designers' section of the Israel Community of Designers.

The exhibition will be on display through March. At its conclusion, the pieces will be put up for sale.
