Indo/U.S. conference set for next week
'Best of the Best' to foster new relationships between U.S. and Indian jewelry industry
September 04, 2008
Mumbai, India—The second Indo/U.S. Jewelry Business Relationship Development Conference—dubbed the "Best of the Best"—is slated to get underway on Monday in Mumbai, India. Sponsored by Rio Tinto Diamonds, the conference will include two days of panel discussions, a keynote address by National Jeweler Editorial Director Whitney Sielaff and 45-minute "speed dates" between nine U.S. retailers and wholesalers and 11 major Indian jewelry manufacturers. After that, the U.S. trade delegates will split up for two days of personalized factory tours in Mumbai's SEEPZ, the industrial business park that houses the majority of India's jewelry manufacturers. The idea behind the conference is to foster new relationships between U.S. and Indian jewelry industry players. Slated attendees from the United States include: Sterling Jewelers's Kay Jewelers and Jared The Galleria of Jewelry divisions, Fred Meyer Jewelers, Reeds of North Carolina, Herteen and Stocker and Wickersham Jewelers representing RJO, Bergstrom's and Becker's Jewelers representing Leading Jewelers of the World, Cardow's of the U.S. Virgin Islands and fine jewelry designer/wholesaler Temple St. Clair. "Despite the difficult economy, we are pleased with the quality of this year's conference sponsors and retailers," India's Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council Chairman Sanjay Kothari said in a media release. "India is committed to growing its jewelry business, and this conference is one of our key initiatives to support the important U.S. business. We salute the retailers that have the courage and vision to keep developing new manufacturing sources and know that our sponsors will both surprise and delight their U.S. guests with a highly saleable, fashionable product that not only delivers a good working margin but also provides them with an excellent value for sale to their customers."
